Members' Travel: Copenhagen

We all know how we in the GTA love (and sometimes hate) our beloved Spurs, but have you ever wondered who else in the world feels the same? Melanie, who is one of our Board members, recently went to Copenhagen and learned that the Danes have the same love and dedication for our Lilywhites.

The Copenhagen Spurs supporter club also affectionately known as the “White Hart Danes” have over 600 members and was established in 2005. Each game, the Spurs faithful meet at Café Langebro which holds approximately 50 people to cheer, shout, chant and drink a cold beverage all in support of the Spurs.

Prior to her trip to Copenhagen, Melanie reached out to the White Hart Danes and connected with Nadia, Vice Chair and Toni, Board Member of the supporter club. The three of them met at Café Langebro and talked about their love of all things Spurs over a pint (or two). Nadia and Toni gave a tour of the pub, shared stories about watching past monumental games (think Luca Moura and those three magical goals) and funny tidbits about past Danish Spurs players. In turn, Melanie shared our key stats, painted a picture of the atmosphere at the Yard and some ideas that are in the works. Needless to say, they were impressed by the dedication us Toronto Spurs show by attending the Yard for the 7:30am EST kick off times!

Melanie learned that later this year, there will be over 50 White Hart Danes members travelling to London for the Fulham game.  What makes this even more special is that there will also be over 45 Norwegian Spurs supporters joining them in what will no doubt be the largest Scandinavian section at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

But what was the most impressive about that afternoon, was that in a sport historically tailored to men, it was these three women who sat for over 3 hours discussing their favourite players, managers, strategies, past games, memories and where they would like to see the club go.  These three women all hold a spot on the board of their various supporter club, they come from different walks of life, countries, language and yet the love of Spurs was the common thread between them all.

If you are ever in Copenhagen, it is worth reaching out to meet these wonderful supporters, have a drink at Café Langebro and appreciate how far reaching the support for Spurs goes around the world.
